This is a strange why choose featuring a vampire, a werewolf, and a zombie. Swords and all sorts of spare limbs cross.

This instalove story features a trans man pre- and post-transition, mentions of dysphoria & misgendering, his deadname, magical transitioning, a shapeshifting yew fairy, tree-inspired genitalia, deals with the fae, consent checks, leaving the human world forever, oral, post-transition sex, mating bonds with bites and heartstrings, and tying each other together for eternity.

A note on names:

Not every trans person has a difficult history with their deadname, but it’s incredibly rude to go in search of it or to advertise it for them. For some of us, choosing our names is a difficult process, and for others, it’s easier. But often using one’s deadname is akin to water torture, these little drips that eat away at you and make you feel less human. My use of Astor’s deadname is to represent his journey and his alone.

A note on the magical transition:

While I think that there can be joy in complete body transformation stories, my portrayal of Astor is meant to embrace a body that most trans men have nowadays because I think it’s important to be able to see yourself in fiction. Though I couldn’t quite use the comparative language of the modern era—this story felt right to set a hundred or so years back—his cock is closer to the kind you get on testosterone than it is to a cis man’s. 

We do not have to ascribe to cis standards of gender to be real or valid.
